Traditional hammam or modern spa in Marrakech?
The Sakina hammam ritual is traditional, the setting is modern. 45 minutes, two separate hammams, from 250 MAD.

At the Sakina front desk, one question comes up often: “Is it a real hammam, or a spa hammam?” Short answer: the Hammam & Scrub is a traditional ritual. Steam, a scrub and, as an add-on, a ghassoul wrap. What is modern is the setting around it. A booked slot, a price you know in advance, one hammam for women and one for men.
Both choices make sense. Here is what differs, so you pick for your own evening and not for a label.
What stays traditional at Sakina
The sequence is the one you know. You step into the damp heat, your skin softens, then comes the scrub. The Hammam & Scrub session lasts about 45 minutes. Our menu describes it plainly: deep cleansing, better circulation, relaxation.
If you want more, there is an add-on: a ghassoul wrap and rub-down, about 20 extra minutes. Ghassoul is the Moroccan clay many families have used for generations. Reception confirms the protocol when you book.
What is modern
Sakina has two separate hammams. One for women, one for men. No mixed slots. You say which one when you book, and each guest has their session in their own space.
The rest is short. You book by WhatsApp, phone or at reception. The starting price is known: 250 MAD, indicative and confirmed at reception. And the spa sits in the same building as the Canal Forme club. You can swim or take a class, then go straight to the hammam without getting back in the car.
In a neighbourhood or medina hammam
The neighbourhood hammam has its own charm. People often arrive with their own black soap, scrub glove and bucket, stay a long while, and meet everyone. There is not always a booking system, and every place has its own habits. If that is the atmosphere you are after, that is where to go.
Sakina answers a different wish: a hammam where you know the time, the price and the space in advance. When you book, ask reception what to bring.
Which one tonight
Tuesday after work, 45 minutes to spare: book a slot at Sakina. You know when you will be out.
A Sunday with no timetable, in the mood for old walls and a slow afternoon: a neighbourhood or medina hammam may suit you better.
First time in Morocco, a suitcase back at the hotel and a single free slot: the spa saves you the guesswork. You book, you come, you leave relaxed. No gym membership needed.
Want time to yourself in a space reserved for women, or for men? That is where Sakina stands out.
